Research Methods

Applied Research & Engineering
AR&E invests from 20% to 30% of revenue in researching current and upcoming technologies in computer science and product development.  We use scientifically oriented analytical and research skills to find products and technologies that will benefit our clients.

AR&E uses seven steps to assess the usefulness of a technology, product, or technique:

  1. Identification, Discovery, or Invention
  2. Description and Definition
  3. Experimentation, Assessment, and Verification
  4. Correlation to Business
  5. Assessment of Implementation
  6. Longevity Analysis
  7. Return-on-Investment Calculations

The end-result of a line of research is a comprehensive report that details the methods used in the seven steps and the conclusions born of their execution.

In appropriate circumstances based on general usefulness of the research, a comprehensive summary report may be delivered free of charge to the client in support of both the client's decision-making process and AR&E's internal product development.

In this case, the full report may be offered in one of two general ways:

  1. Delivered as a product like any other (contract agreement, acceptance criteria, support, etc.); OR
  2. Bound to a project in which it will be used, said project contracted in the normal manner.
